Psychological Novels Challenge

I guess I would have to do this challenge, right?? To be honest, psychology is my genre and style. Not just because it makes me curious, but because it helps me a lot and I wanted to learn more. At a young age, i already started reading and studying psychology. I started in reading simple articles like 'Most common phobias' or 'Dreams and their meanings'. Psychology helps me understand human behaviors and also to decipher people. I even call myself a psychology student eventhough I'm not yet in college. Whenever I discover some psychology novels, I always get interested and ended up reading it just like Sigmund Freud's "Interpreting Dreams". So this year 2014, I decided to take up this challenge. Before 2014 ends, I would finish reading all these psychological novels (via ebook I think).

1. It's Kind Of A Funny Story by Ned Vizzini

Ambitious New York City teenager Craig Gilner is determined to succeed at life - which means getting into the right high school to get into the right job. But once Craig aces his way into Manhattan's Executive Pre-Professional High School, the pressure becomes unbearable. He stops eating and sleeping until, one night, he nearly kills himself.

Craig's suicidal episode gets him checked into a mental hospital, where his new neighbors include a transsexual sex addict, a girl who has scarred her own face with scissors, and the self-elected President Armelio. There, Craig is finally able to confront the sources of his anxiety.

Ned Vizzini, who himself spent time in a psychiatric hospital, has created a remarkably moving tale about the sometimes unexpected road to happiness.

2. Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne's fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick's clever and beautiful wife disappears from their rented McMansion on the Mississippi River. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn't doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife's head, but passages from Amy's diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media--as well as Amy's fiercely doting parents--the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he's definitely bitter--but is he really a killer?
As the cops close in, every couple in town is soon wondering how well they know the one that they love. With his twin sister, Margo, at his side, Nick stands by his innocence. Trouble is, if Nick didn't do it, where is that beautiful wife? And what was in that silvery gift box hidden in the back of her bedroom closet?

3. Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane

The year is 1954. U.S. Marshal Teddy Daniels and his new -partner, Chuck Aule, have come to Shutter Island, home of Ashecliffe Hospital for the Criminally Insane, to investigate the disappearance of a patient. Multiple-murderess Rachel Solando is loose somewhere on this barren island, despite having been kept in a locked cell under constant surveillance. As a killer hurricane bears relentlessly down on them, a strange case takes on even darker, more sinister shades--with hints of radical experimentation, horrifying surgeries, and lethal countermoves made in the cause of a covert shadow war. No one is going to escape Shutter Island unscathed, because nothing at Ashecliffe Hospital is remotely what it seems.

4. The Medea Complex by Rachel Florence Roberts

****BASED ON A TRUE STORY***

1885. Anne Stanbury - Committed to a lunatic asylum, having been deemed insane and therefore unfit to stand trial for the crime of which she is indicted. But is all as it seems?

Edgar Stanbury - the grieving husband and father who is torn between helping his confined wife recover her sanity, and seeking revenge on the woman who ruined his life.

Dr George Savage - the well respected psychiatrist, and chief medical officer of Bethlem Royal Hospital. Ultimately, he holds Anne's future wholly in his hands.

The Medea Complex tells the story of a misunderstood woman suffering from insanity in an era when mental illnesses' were all too often misdiagnosed and mistreated. A deep and riveting psychological thriller set within an historical context, packed full of twists and turns, The Medea Complex explores the nature of the human psyche: what possesses us, drives us, and how love, passion, and hope for the future can drive us to insanity.

5. Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro

As a child, Kathy – now thirty-one years old – lived at Hailsham, a private school in the scenic English countryside where the children were sheltered from the outside world, brought up to believe that they were special and that their well-being was crucial not only for themselves but for the society they would eventually enter. Kathy had long ago put this idyllic past behind her, but when two of her Hailsham friends come back into her life, she stops resisting the pull of memory.

And so, as her friendship with Ruth is rekindled, and as the feelings that long ago fueled her adolescent crush on Tommy begin to deepen into love, Kathy recalls their years at Hailsham. She describes happy scenes of boys and girls growing up together, unperturbed – even comforted – by their isolation. But she describes other scenes as well: of discord and misunderstanding that hint at a dark secret behind Hailsham’s nurturing facade. With the dawning clarity of hindsight, the three friends are compelled to face the truth about their childhood–and about their lives now.

A tale of deceptive simplicity, Never Let Me Go slowly reveals an extraordinary emotional depth and resonance – and takes its place among Kazuo Ishiguro’s finest work.

Bruno Mars Book Tags

So I got the idea of this section to Katytastic's video on YT. You'll pick some of Bruno Mars song and then you'll mention the book that comes to your mind or somewhat relates to that song.

The Lazy song - Diary Of A Wimpy Kid series

Synopsis:
It’s a new school year, and Greg Heffley finds himself thrust into middle school, where undersized weaklings share the hallways with kids who are taller, meaner, and already shaving. The hazards of growing up before you’re ready are uniquely revealed through words and drawings as Greg records them in his diary.

In book one of this debut series, Greg is happy to have Rowley, his sidekick, along for the ride. But when Rowley’s star starts to rise, Greg tries to use his best friend’s newfound popularity to his own advantage, kicking off a chain of events that will test their friendship in hilarious fashion.

Author/illustrator Jeff Kinney recalls the growing pains of school life and introduces a new kind of hero who epitomizes the challenges of being a kid. As Greg says in his diary, “Just don’t expect me to be all ‘Dear Diary’ this and ‘Dear Diary’ that.” Luckily for us, what Greg Heffley says he won’t do and what he actually does are two very different things.

Let's try to imagine a peaceful, sunny afternoon. It will be a fine day to read something that is relaxing or humorous to escape from the real world full of stressful activities. So I guess If you just wanted to lie down on your bed and read a good book all day, this will be perfect.

Just The Way You Are - A Walk To Remember

Synopsis:
Every April, when the wind blows from the sea and mingles with the scent of lilacs, Landon Carter remembers his last year at Beaufort High. It was 1958, and Landon had already dated a girl or two. He even swore that he had once been in love. Certainly the last person in town he thought he'd fall for was Jamie Sullivan, the daughter of the town's Baptist minister.

A quiet girl who always carried a Bible with her schoolbooks, Jamie seemed content living in a world apart from the other teens. She took care of her widowed father, rescued hurt animals, and helped out at the local orphanage. No boy had ever asked her out. Landon would never have dreamed of it.

Then a twist of fate made Jamie his partner for the homecoming dance, and Landon Carter's life would never be the same. Being with Jamie would show him the depths of the human heart and lead him to a decision so stunning it would send him irrevocably on the road to manhood...

I guess this is the perfect story for this song. It pretty sums up the love of Landon for Jamie no matter what happens. I can already hear Landon's heart saying: "You're the only one Jamie! I'll love you no matter what!"

Count On Me - The Percy Jackson series

Synopsis:
Percy Jackson is about to be kicked out of boarding school... again. And that's the least of his troubles. Lately, mythological monsters and the gods of Mount Olympus seem to be walking straight out of the pages of Percy's Greek mythology textbook and into his life. And worse, he's angered a few of them. Zeus' master lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect.

Now Percy and his friends have just ten days to find and return Zeus' stolen property and bring peace to a warring Mount Olympus. But to succeed on his quest, Percy will have to do more than catch the true thief: he must come to terms with the father who abandoned him; solve the riddle of the Oracle, which warns him of betrayal by a friend; and unravel a treachery more powerful than the gods themselves.

For me Percy will not be successful if its not for his friends. His friends cotributed a lot to his achievements and if its not for them, Percy would probably be dead now. PJO is all about trusting and courage.

Today My Life Begins - The Purpose-Driven Life

Synopsis:

Rick Warren will guide you through a personal forty-day spiritual journey that will transform your answer to life's most important question: What on earth am I here for? So yeah, this is a non-fiction christian book. But this is the book that comes to my mind whenever I hear the song Today My Life Begins because this is somewhat like a self-help book (not actually self-help but guidance) that sets you free from worries, unanswerable questions and a misdirected life. It will help you know the purpose of your life and when you finished reading this book, you'll surely change for the better and tell yourself, "Today my life begins."

Special Day For Me

Date check: 17th of October. So today is a very special day for me. You know why? Of course, it's my 14th birthday today!
Now let's see... here is my wish list: (In general, anything that is cute, readable & edible XD)

- Anything that has an adorable cat on it (maybe a tumblr, a shirt, a notebook etc.)
- Anything that is color Blue and has a cute design.
- Anime stuffs
- Anything that has my favorite cartoon character design on it. (Snoopy, Winnie The Pooh, Strawberry Shortcake and Care Bears)
- A book. (a novel, a pocketbook, a picture book or a magazine)
- Poster of my fandom. (Taylor Swift, Bruno Mars, Paramore etc.)
- A photo of my crush.
- A birthday cake.
- Lots and lots of Japanese Cake!! >3<
- Stuffed Toys (like a teddy bear)

That's all I could think of! But a simple greeting would really mean a lot to me
I'm very happy and contented if many of my friends would greet me. I would really appreciate it. :)
So since it's my birthday today, I would like to share a few genuine heartfelt birthday quotes and wishes for myself, maybe?? :)

  • Birthdays are a new start; fresh beginnings, a time to start new endeavors with new goals. Move forward with fresh confidence and courage. You are a special person, may you have an amazing today and year!
  • Count the age, not the wrinkles you have. Count the blessings and the wonderful experience not the mistakes you have made.
  • Forget the past, look forward to the future for the best things are yet to come.
  • The advantage of old age is that you get many people to love.
  • Because, today is a special day. Simply sending birthday wishes, wouldn’t do. So I’m sending you a day when all your dreams come true and, a year that means the most to you!

  • I’m so glad you were born, because you brighten my life and fill it with joy. Wishing you a day filled with love and cheer. Hoping your day will be as special as you are.
  • Blowing out another candle should mean that you have lived another year with joy and you’ve made this world a better place. Make every day of your life and every candle count.
  • Another year has passed and let me just say how much we count on you rather than count the years.
  • Another year older, another year wiser. Well, at least you are growing up to be what you were meant to be.
  • It’s the simplest things that make your life count, like a simple wish.
Start your day with a smile :) Never EVER forget to:

Always make the best of your day. Live your life to the fullest. Aim high.

Keep On Moving Forward

I know I'm not much of a friendly person who can give you advice on anything, but I guess little things do count. If you have time to read my seemingly pointless but helpful thoughts, I'm saying thank you in advance. These quotes from movies are often the words that we give when we're letting go of someone or something like that.

I know, we can't say this in real life but the line: Don't let me, I know we always wanted to answer like that but we can't. Why? Because we keep on holding on.

Well, I know this is not a break up line or something that shatters our heart into pieces, but this is a promise from the movie The Vow. I hope every man can fulfill this promise.

Anyway, I know that we ladies are tired to hear this words. They'll say "You are my life now" but then leaves you afterwards. Men are very indecisive. Remember that. They can't keep their promises. But of course, not all of them are like that. I'm just saying that MOST of them, they keep on changing their decisions, perspective and outlook.

This is often said in the state of moving on. Yes, you're already moving on but you will never forget him especially the memories. Why? Because he became your world that's why it is getting hard for you to let go. But no matter how hard it is, if it is over, it's over. Don't hurt yourself because you know that he'll never come back and that you just have to find a way to forget him. Get it?

Yes, we still love the person even on the day that you lose them. Well, if you're the one who break up with him because you are tired of his attitudes, well, you didn't lose him. You let go. So it's not that hard to move on. But if he's the one who broke up with you, then you lost him. You lose your world. Because he let go when you're still holding on. That's the difference between letting go and losing him.

My favorite quote from Taylor Swift  We all deserve to love and be loved, not fall in love. Because everything that falls, gets broken, according to Taylor. That's true. It's the same as don't give everything for someone or else, you might fall and in the end, you'll get broken.

This should be the saying all couples should base their relationships. Just be strong and hold on even when you feel like letting go, because you believe that God works on your life and something good will happen out of it.

Don't look for the perfect person because love is not about finding the perfect person, it's about loving an imperfect person, perfectly. No one is perfect. Only God is. You'll never find a perfect guy, because they don't exist or if they do, they exist in fairy tales. If he is the one who is destined for you, remember, he should also look for you. So when the day comes when the two of you met together and said in unison, "finally I found you!", that's the day that you already found the one who will love you just the same as you love him and unconditionally.

Either it is a guy or a girl, never apologize for saying what you really feel. Besides, you're just being real. Don't apologize just because he/she got mad. If the reaction is like that, stop that feeling of yours. You don't deserve someone who don't accept your feelings.

Can you?

This line is for all those who got the second chances. Remember, if you love something, let it go. If it comes back, it's yours. But if it doesn't, it was never yours to begin with. But not all second chances mean they already realize their love for you. As I said, men are indecisive. And not all people deserve to have second chances.

Yes, some girls believe that they can change the guy and they might turn out to be different. You know, think before you act or else you might regret everything. If from the beginning you already knew that he's not the right man for you, then don't insist. You'll just receive unnecessary pain.

Happens all the time.

This line describes our feelings. He will never understand, and you can't explain. It's just hard to make out the words. It's overflowing and words are not enough. But if you soared high, you'll also fall hard. Balance everything and don't give too much because that too much can hurt you.

God speed :)

But always remember, GOD IS IN CONTROL. He plans your everyday life and you don't need to worry. God is good. He has a right man for you. You just have to have faith in God and let him control your life. Don't let your emotions drive your life. If you feel like unloved, just remember that God loves all His children, and you're one of them! Trust in His plans. All you have to do is to give all your best and let God do the rest. Keep on moving forward and keep praying. It works all the time!
